In the 80s Matuschka dropped out of the modeling world to pursue a career as an artist and worked in several media while keeping one foot in the fashion world and the other in the downtown scene. During this decade she collaborated with her favorite illustrators, artists and photographers. As Matuschka became more in charge of styling, wardrobe, and make up, she also printed the negatives shot of her. The photographs taken during this period reflects this change as Matuschka moved towards combining her experience as a model with her fine arts acumen.
